The band finishes, and a cleaning crew comes in. Much machinery and banter. And jumping ants. The crew chief takes a break and sings a solo. About illin’ D. His name. The ants sing their own version. No panegyric here. No hagiography. Enmity. The ants sit by the radio—a flicker of home, and Mahler’s 9. Crew Chief walks home still singing; a rousing climax.
